Final Film + Evaluation Notes

Since the beginning of the year I have come across countless problems and issues when planning, creating and editing my film. Starting with the initial idea of making a comedy, I soon changed my mind after realising how hard it would be to write a script that would be funny to an outside audience. Deciding on a drama, Kieran and I soon came up with a script. When we were told it needed to be less "tell and more show" (as explained in previous posts) we decided to take a drastic step and take dialogue out of the film all together. This fixed the problem of the film telling the audience too much and so being boring. Without dialogue the film allows the audience to make their own decisions on what the plot is about. So even though there is a script the film can be interpreted in many different ways.

When filming we encountered many problems. Firstly we were pushed for time and so many scenes were unfortunately rushed. This meant I had very little shots to choose for scenes when editing. Also, (unaware) the camera we used was stuck on to auto-focus resulting in many shots being slightly out of focus. I learned from feedback that this is an annoying feature of the film when watching it.

I also had to alter slightly from the script as some scenes we had written just weren't possible to film at the time. The plot is still the same with the same beginning and ending but the school scene was taken away so that we could film and edit by the given deadline.

I feel the film came out okay but it could be a lot better. I have learned a great deal this year and was I to make another film I would use my knowledge to create a better final project.
